How your annual donation helps

When your donation is received:
  • it will be added to the donations from other donors in your state.
  • Soccer For A Cure will establish a relationship with one or more cancer related 501(c)(3) charitable organizations, foundations, hospitals, or clinics (entity) in your state.
  • each entity must have a process of identifying families they work with that are experiencing financial hardships as they deal with the day to day issues brought on by cancer treatment
  • the entity will complete a request for financial support on behalf of one of the families and then submit it to Soccer For A Cure.
  • if it is determined that the request is in order and there is enough in the pool of donations from your state to honor the request, a donation will be made from Soccer For A Cure to the requesting entity.
  • the requesting entity will in turn channel the donation to the family.

As the Soccer For A Cure team in your state grows, and your annual donation is combined with the annual donation of other team members from your state, the amount of money available to help families as they battle cancer will help relieve some of the financial pressure on many families in your state.

The following story about a 9 year old girl was provided by the Brain Tumor Foundation for Children in January 2008. It illustrates a family dealing with financial issues as the daughter fights her battle with cancer. To protect the identity of the family, the girls name has been changed from her real name to "Jane".

“Jane” is a 9-year-old girl who first started treatment for her brain tumor six years ago. She has had several brain surgeries, six weeks of radiation treatments, and ten rounds of chemotherapy. She has had numerous complications and countless inpatient stays. Weekly trips to the doctor or hospital are a way of life for Jane and her parents (they take turns tending to these needs in order to alternate who takes time off from work). Jane is again very sick with recent progression of her tumor. She has been in the hospital for two weeks now and is currently receiving intensive rehabilitation services. This family is in great need of assistance with day-to-day living expenses to keep the household going for the entire family, which includes two other children.
